The Bishop of Bristol, the Rt Revd Vivienne Faull, is pleased to announce the appointment of Revd Sally Robertson as the new Area Dean for Swindon.
Revd Sally has been appointed as the new Area Dean for Swindon following Revd Trudie Wigley who has been elected as Chair of Clergy in Bristol Diocesan Synod. In the Diocese of Bristol there are a total of seven deaneries, each led by an Area Dean.
Sally is priest-in-charge of St Andrew in North Swindon, a post she has held for the last four years. Prior to this, she was associate minister at St John’s Haydon Wick, the neighbouring parish. She and her husband, Simon, moved to Swindon from Reading eight years ago where Sally had been a self-supporting curate at St Mary’s Purley on Thames, having been ordained in 2010. During her time in Swindon, Sally has been chair of the Swindon Uganda link team and been privileged to form relationships with Christians from Kampala and Luweero through hosting visits here and visiting Uganda twice.
Sally and Simon have three daughters in their 20s who now rarely live at home, giving the parents more time to enjoy their hobbies of geocaching and board games. Sally is also a member of the Swindon Gilbert and Sullivan Society, and enjoys the challenge of singing and dancing, preferably in the back row of the chorus.
Revd Sally Robertson said: “Over the past year I have enjoyed working with Revd Trudie Wigley as Assistant Area Dean and intend to build on the work we did together in helping to rebuild Swindon Deanery following the recent disruptions. I am passionate about encouraging churches to work together so that resources and initiatives can be shared and Jesus’ name can be proclaimed by a united body of Christians across the town.”
