Obituary: The Revd Barry Trotter

The Reverend Harold Barrington (Barry) Trotter

Many of you who have been in the Diocese for many years will be sad to hear that the Revd Barry Trotter died on 24 February 2017, aged 83.

Born in 1933, Barry trained at Sarum Theological College and was ordained deacon in 1966. He served his title in Salisbury and was successively Diocesan Youth Officer in Salisbury, Vicar of Horton and Chalbury in Salisbury Diocese and then came to Bristol Diocese to be Rector of Frenchay, and subsequently Vicar of Henbury. Barry was also Warden of the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit from 1991-1996.

The late John Prior, Historian of the Fellowship, wrote of Barry's time as Warden: "Barry was an industrial chemist; the combination of science and business training made him keep a sharp eye on Diocesan policy, which he analysed with fearless logic. Within the Fellowship he was good company, organised things well and occasionally pointed out the perils of a falling membership, now happily reversed."

Barry's wife, Eileen, died a couple of years ago. He is survived by his children Jane, Elisabeth, Tim and Richard.

Barry's funeral will be at St Peter's, Newnham on Severn, on 27 March at 1pm.

May he Rest in Peace.
