Gender-based violence action day

The Mothers’ Union in Bristol is inviting everyone to join them for a day of action against gender-based violence around the world.

#nomore1in3 highlights the shocking statistic that 33 percent of women will experience violence in their lifetime.

The Global Day of Action takes place on Saturday 26th November. Everyone is encouraged to stop at 1pm to mark the day, observe a three-minute silence, maintain a silent prayer for three-minutes and then to pray a closing prayer at 1.06pm.

The MU have arranged for a prayer vigil to take place in St Mary's church in Yate from 11.30am to 2.30pm on the day.

“There’ll be prayer stations, stories, hot drinks and an opportunity to talk. At 1pm we will gather with placards at St Mary’s lych gate to observe the three-minute silence and prayer,” says Jacky Fredrickson, the MU Diocesan President in Bristol. “Simultaneously, the vigil will be broadcast this live on the Mothers' Union Bristol diocese Facebook page.”

Globally, 16 days of activism starts on Friday 25 November 25th - the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and runs until Saturday 10th December - International Human Rights Day.

“I am passionate about the rights of women and girls,” says Jacky. “The Mothers' Union Global Day is an opportunity to actively pray for peace in our society, justice and fairness for the vulnerable and the marginalised.”
