Self-Supporting Ordained Ministers (SSOM) Convenor
Can you help to gather, support and advocate for SSOMs in the Diocese of Bristol?
Hours: Up to a day per week
Salary: This is a voluntary post
Location: Home based
Duration: A three year appointment, renewable by agreement of the post holder and the Bishop of Bristol
The Organisation
The Diocese of Bristol is the part of the Church of England that serves Bristol and Swindon. There are more than 200 churches in the Diocese, led by hundreds of clergy. In addition, around 15,000 children and young people attend our 72 church schools.
This is an exciting time within the Diocese as we are inspired by a fresh vision to encourage and resource church and community through a collaborative programme called Transforming Church. Together. We want to understand what we do well, what we can change for the better and how to create a positive way forward together.
Role Overview and Duties
- To provide opportunities for the Self Supporting Ordained Ministers of the Diocese to gather and share experiences, joys and challenges;
- Identify matters of shared concern amongst SSOMs;
- To promote good practice around the discernment, deployment, and exercise of SSOM;
- To support the development of SSOMs in the Diocese.
- To promote and support vocations to SSOM in the Diocese of Bristol;
- To ensure that the concerns of SSOMs are heard by the Director of Mission and Ministry Support and the Bishop’s Staff Meeting;
Desired Skills and Experience:
Can you help to gather, support and advocate for SSOMs in the Diocese of Bristol?
The SSOM Convenor will be skilled in gathering people; offering support; and advocating for others. They will have experience in SSOM ministry in parishes and in contributing to mission and ministry within the Church of England.
