Richard Leaman takes up his role as Diocesan Secretary and CEO at Bristol Diocese, this January, after being appointed in October 2021.

Richard previously served in the Royal Navy rising to the rank of Rear Admiral, and is a practicing Christian, an experienced charity leader, and a champion for diversity, equality, and inclusion.

In his role, Richard will lead the Diocesan Support Services team in serving ministers, parishes and schools and is the Chief Officer of Bristol Diocesan Board of Finance (DBF).

Richard said: “I am absolutely delighted, and honoured, to be taking on this role at such a critical time for the diocese. I have been heartened by all the kind messages I have been sent since joining.

“With the challenges we are all facing – both globally and in the diocese – I am keen to play an active role in making our new strategy a reality as soon as we can, and remain committed to listening carefully to everything you have to say about it.

“I still have much to learn and many people to meet, and look forward to getting out and about over the next few months to do just that!”

Since joining the diocese in November 2021, Richard has been getting to know the team, as well as working on Transforming Church Together, the process to discern and develop the next vision and strategy for the Diocese.

Work on Transforming Church will continue this year, and it is hoped that by January 2023 the diocese will be engaging with and inspired by our new vision, purpose, and outcomes.
