The Bishop of Bristol, Rt Revd Vivienne Faull, is pleased to announce that Becky Waring has been appointed Area Dean of Bristol South.
Becky has the been vicar of St Martins Knowle since 2016. Previous to her ministry at St Martins, Becky was a Licensed Lay Minister. In addition, she served the Diocese as the Advisor for Lay Ministry, and for the last three years has undertaken the role of Diocesan Warden of Readers. Becky is also part of the team that facilitates conflict transformation training for the Diocese.
Becky grew up in Bristol, and went to school at Hanham High. She worked as a Human Resources Consultant for a large private insurance company, and then worked for a charity supporting adults with learning disabilities. She served her curacy in Frenchay and Stapleton.
Becky is married to Simon, and they have two daughters and a granddaughter.
Becky said: "I am delighted to accept Bishop Viv's invitation to be Area Dean of Bristol South. This is a fantastic Deanery to be part of, and I hope to continue to build on the strong sense of collegiality that already exists. As we respond to God's invitation to be his church in this time and in these places, I also hope to continue to encourage colleagues in our shared ministry and mission together, equipping the whole people of God in their journeys of faith."
There are seven deaneries in the Diocese of Bristol. Area Deans play a key role in helping resource parishes as they implement the diocesan vision and priorities, as well as reporting to the Bishop on any significant matters arising from their churches.
Bishop Viv said: I am delighted to appoint Becky as Area Dean of Bristol South. She has faithfully served the Diocese, both as an incumbent and as part of the Diocesan Support Services team and I look forward to working alongside her in her new role. Please do continue to remember her in your prayers as she steps into this post.
Becky will be licensed at the Area Deans meeting in January, following Revd Nick Hay standing down from the role on the 31 December 2019.
