Prayer from Rt Revd Vivienne Faull, Bishop of Bristol to mark Prisons Week 2022

First published 13th October 2022

For nearly 50 years, Prisons Week which started on 9 October this year and ends this weekend, has encouraged Christians to pray for all those affected by crime and imprisonment. The Samaritan leper in Luke 17, inspires us all to seek what he was amazed to find when returning to thank Jesus for his healing … a new beginning..

Their recent campaigns have moved us, like him, from loneliness and despair to hope. And now, like him, we also return with gratitude.

We wanted to share this short prayer from Rt Revd Vivienne Faull, Bishop of Bristol to mark Prisons Week 2022:-

Lord, make us instruments of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let us give your love.

Where there is injury, pardon.

Where there is doubt, faith.

Where there is despair, hope.

Where there is sadness, joy.

Where there is darkness, light.

For in giving we receive,

in pardoning we are pardoned

and in dying we are born to eternal life.

Amen.
