Bishops of Bristol and South Sudan exchange rings of reconciliation at the Lambeth Conference

Earlier today at this year’s Lambeth Conference, Rt Reverend Vivienne Faull, Bishop of Bristol, and Bishop John of Yeri, a Diocese in South Sudan exchanged their episcopal rings as a sign of mutual endeavour at the Reconciliation plenary session.

Hundreds of Bishops at the conference today, recognised that ministering in a complex world is challenging, and that we increasingly experience this in our relationships, communities, and our nations. The plenary session looked at how we can follow the model of Jesus and lead in a way that crosses divides, navigates disagreement, and highlights God’s gift of reconciliation for the world.

Following the heart-warming token of growing trust and hope, Bishop Viv said, “'You may have heard of splits and conflict but - symbolised by exchanging these rings - I see that there is growing trust and hope, and - more importantly - it shows how heart speaks to heart at Lambeth, and that love is stronger than the politics of schism'.
