Sam Denyer licensed as Priest in Charge of St Martin’s Knowle

The Diocese of Bristol is pleased to share that the Revd Sam Denyer has been licensed as Priest in Charge of St Martin’s Knowle. Sam was licensed by the Rt Revd Neil Warwick, Acting Bishop of Bristol, on Tuesday, 28 October in a service at St Martin’s.

Sam Denyer

Sam grew up in Bristol and moved away for ordination training 18 years ago. He was previously vicar of two churches in Wells and Wookey Hole for eight years. Before that, he was based in Winnersh, Berkshire after serving his curacy in Lostwithiel, Cornwall. This new chapter therefore marks a significant move for his family, bringing them nearer to family and old friends.

Speaking about the licensing and looking forward to his new role, Sam said:

‘I am delighted to be moving back to the city of my birth to minister here for the first time. Paula and I felt an immediate connection with the people of St Martin's, and we can't wait to engage fully with the life of the church and wider community. Our teenage children are also delighted to be moving to the bright lights of Bristol! At my licensing, we heard the story of the boy Samuel's call in the temple, and I pray that I may be just as persistent and attentive in listening and being obedient to God's word here in Knowle.’
