The Revd Ruth Harding, Associate Minister of Frenchay and Stapleton has been appointed to a new role as Convenor of Self-Supporting Ordained Ministers (SSOMs) in the Diocese of Bristol. Ruth’s role will be to gather, support and advocate for SSOMs in the Diocese. Ruth’s appointment will begin on 1st July 2025, and a public service of commissioning will take place in the autumn.
The Rt Revd Vivienne Faull, Bishop of Bristol says: "I am delighted that Ruth has taken on this role. Her work as Convenor will ensure that the voice and perspective of Self-supporting clergy is heard. It is vital that their particular ministry is recognised and affirmed. Each SSOM brings invaluable gifts which enrich the mission and ministry of the church in the Diocese of Bristol.”
The Revd Ruth Harding says: " I am excited to be taking on the role as SSOM convenor. As self-supporting ordained ministers we have a unique role because we all have different demands on our time, we have different hours we are available, some work in secular employment and it can be difficult to meet others in similar positions and receive support. I want to make sure SSOM’s feel supported. I want to see all clergy flourish in Bristol Diocese and I’m looking forward to meeting and supporting SSOM’s and playing my part in representing them in the unique role that we have."
The Revd Ruth Harding is a learning support assistant in a special school in Bristol. She has a background in nursing. She serves as Assistant Minister in the parishes of Frenchay and Stapleton.
