From the moment that our visitor, Canon Stanley, arrived at Heathrow he was a friend and a most rewarding person to introduce round the Deanery.
Everywhere he went people enjoyed meeting him and responded to his warmth and he took an interest in all that we had planned for him.
Farms, flowers and fetes ...
He was taken to schools, visited farms, enjoyed the rhododendrons in Westonbirt Arboretum, admired church buildings, experienced an English school fete, took part in Open the Book at the Crudwell school assembly (dramatisation of bible stories - he was Thomas in the story of Doubting Thomas), and was interviewed by a local radio station in Swindon.
One man went to mow ...
There were some quiet times when he was able to sit and read - but he also mowed our lawn twice, saying the motor mower was like his motorbike, and the lawn was mown at top speed!
Choral delight ...
One of the best memories was the Roadshow with the choir who set it all alight - and the whole hall all waving and clapping and loving every moment. We were very sorry for the people who missed it. We hope that the pleasure and warmth of that fortnight will spread and strengthen the link between North Wiltshire Deanery and the Diocese of Kigezi.
