Dementia Action Week is being celebrated with a day to support churches in continuing their dementia friendly church.
The event, which takes place on Friday 24 May, is being held at Westbury-on-Trym Baptist Church in Bristol.
There will be a mixture of speakers, workshops and resources so that there will be something for everyone whether your church is at the beginning of its journey or is already well on its way.
Keynote Speakers are:
- Jennifer Bute - a retired GP and writer. Jennifer will speak about 'Dementia from the inside - the importance of faith in dealing with its challenges.'
- Debbie Thrower - Founder of Anna Chaplaincy - Debbie will speak about the spiritual support of people with dementia through Anna Chaplaincy and the Gift of Years.
Workshops will cover topics such as: dementia friendly worship, building community connections, making your building dementia friendly, pastoral care, spiritual care, caring for carers, singing for the brain. Attendees are asked to choose workshops in advance so that organisers can match rooms to numbers.
The conference is free, with refreshments and lunch will be provided.

Additional resources
A new resource pack was put together by Churches Together in Bristol last year which aims to bring together a variety of tools and information which may be of use in helping churches to become more dementia friendly.
The pack has been compiled by a small group of people working under the CTGB umbrella, including the Diocesan Disability Adviser Alice Kemp, with the aim to ensure that every denomination has a person who will champion the cause of dementia within their own churches and also to facilitate learning from each others experience.
