The Diocese of Bristol is delighted to announce that the Revd Eric Aidoo, Pastor of City Road Baptist Church, Bristol, will be commissioned as an Honorary Ecumenical Canon during a service at Bristol Cathedral on Sunday 8 June 2025. He joins other lay and ordained members as part of the Cathedral’s College of Canons.
Honorary Ecumenical Canons are leaders from ecumenical partner churches who work closely with the Diocese of Bristol and Bristol Cathedral. The title recognises those who foster good relations between churches and have served their local communities.
The Revd Eric Aidoo
Pastor Eric Aidoo, originally from Ghana, West Africa, moved from London to Bristol with his family in 2000 following postgraduate studies at Whitelands College. With a background in social policy, he has a strong interest in social justice and community cohesion. He has been pastor at City Road Baptist Church, Bristol for the past fourteen years, committed to serving both his congregation and the wider community.
From 2016 to 2022, he served as Chair of Together4Bristol during a pivotal time marked by the toppling of the Colston statue and the global pandemic, both of which deeply impacted the city and highlighted critical issues around race and social equity. Eric played a key role in fostering collaboration between the Christian community, the Mayor’s office, and other local stakeholders, helping the city navigate a time of profound transition. He continues to serve as a Trustee of Together4Bristol and is a member of the Racial Justice Advisory Board of Bristol Cathedral.
