On Tuesday, 11 November, chaplains from across the Diocese came together in the Cathedral for an evening of encouragement, community and celebration. Hosted by Bishop Neil, this was the second chaplains’ gathering and provided a special opportunity to express gratitude for the invaluable work chaplains carry out in their diverse settings.

The event was attended by around 40 chaplains from sectors including the emergency services, the military, education and healthcare.
The evening began with a shared meal, providing space for connection and conversation before two of the chaplains gave short talks, reflecting on their experiences as chaplains. Fr Steve Walters, chaplain to Avon & Somerset Police spoke first, followed by Revd Jo Morris, who serves as a chaplain to St Monica Trust, a Bristol-based charity serving older people. Both speakers shared about the unique challenges and joys of their roles, allowing attendees to gain a better understanding of the work other chaplains do.

Speaking about the gathering, Bishop Neil said:
‘It was a joy to welcome chaplains from many different sectors to the Cathedral on Tuesday to meet one another, make connections and to be able to thank them for all they do. Each chaplain brings Christ’s presence to where people are, whether it is work, rest or play. By their presence, they let people know that God is with them and for them. I thank God for them.’
The gathering highlighted the profound impact chaplains have in bringing hope and light to their unique contexts and offered a valuable opportunity to strengthen community. Please join us in praying for them as they share the love of Christ with those they serve.
