Bishop Neil meets new Lord Mayor of Bristol

On Wednesday, 17 June, Bishop Neil, along with Revd Nicola Coleman, Vicar of St Luke’s Barton Hill and St Ambrose, Revd Emma Langley, Vicar of St Anne’s Eastville, and Canon Guy Wilkinson, Presence & Engagement & Inter Faith Adviser to the Bishop of Bristol, met with the new Lord Mayor of Bristol, Yassin Mohamud. The meeting took place at the Tawfiq Mosque and was also attended by some members of the Mosque’s congregation.

Bishop Neil said: "It was positive to visit to Tawfiq Mosque in Barton Hill, Bristol this week. It was a privilege to meet The Right Hon. Lord Mayor of Bristol, Councillor Yassin Mohamud for the first time and have discussions about working for the good of the local community."

The new mayor came to the UK as a refugee from Somalia and he has lived in the St Jude's area of Bristol for 15 years, having represented his ward since 2021. On taking up the role, he said: “As the first person of Somali heritage to serve as Lord Mayor of Bristol, I carry that distinction with great care, and with a deep commitment to championing the people, values, and opportunities that make our city strong.”
