Bishop Bosco to be commissioned as Ecumenical Canon at Bristol Cathedral

The Diocese of Bristol is delighted to announce that the Rt Revd Bosco MacDonald, Bishop of Clifton, will be commissioned as an Honorary Ecumenical Canon during a service at Bristol Cathedral on 9 March 2025. He joins other lay and ordained members as part of the Cathedral’s College of Canons.

Honorary Ecumenical Canons are leaders from ecumenical partner churches who work closely with the Diocese of Bristol and Bristol Cathedral. The title recognises those who foster good relations between churches and have served their local communities.

The Rt Revd Bosco MacDonald

Bishop John Bosco MacDonald was born in Bath in 1963 and baptised at the parish church of St Mary’s in the city. He studied in Valladolid, Spain at the Royal English College of St Albans and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Clifton at St John the Evangelist, Bath on 6 July 1991. In September 2015 he was appointed Dean of Clifton Cathedral, a position he held until Pope Francis appointed him the Tenth Bishop of Clifton on 14 March 2024.
