Bishop Viv celebrates birthday with children from Willow Park CE Primary School

First published 21st October 2022

Willow Park CE Primary School opened last September following the amalgamation of St Michael on the Mount CE and St Georges CE Primary schools.

An opening ceremony was planned for last autumn but had to be postponed because of covid, so Rt Reverend Vivienne Faull, Bishop of Bristol went back recently to help celebrate their first birthday.

Bishop Viv visited the school, gave a Collective worship when she spoke of going of light from the Cabot Tower beacon for the late Queens jubilee and the importance of being light in communities. She presented the school with a lantern and candle for their birthday celebration, also reminding the pupils and staff to ‘Be the light’ in their school and wider community as their school motto encourages them.

The school is a highly diverse and happy community. It has recently welcomed 40 Afghanistani children, some of whom were in school for the first time that day. The Collective worship was conducted in English, Pashto and Dari. Bishop Viv was shown around the school by some of the pupils and warmly welcomed to each class.
