Beloved Churchwarden and Chaplain given Maundy money by His Majesty

First published 12th April 2023

Last Thursday, two chosen people from the Bristol Diocese attended the Maundy Service at York Minster where they received Maundy Money from HM King Charles III. His Majesty gave out 148 Maundy coins to people who had been nominated for 'exemplary Christian service within the community'.

The two recipients were David Topp from North Wiltshire and Margaret Morgan from Henleaze. They were both nominated by the Archdeacons for their generous service to those in their communities.

Margaret Morgan has served this diocese and her local church, St Alban's in Westbury Park, as Licensed Lay Minister, Church Warden, and Retired Clergy Officer. She acts as Chaplain to her golf club and has served for many years as a volunteer Hospital Chaplain. Margaret is well thought of in her community and has been extremely busy with pastoral care responsibilities until recently. She preaches on occasion and continues to serve on several church committees.

David Topp has served St Giles Church in Lea faithfully for many decades, in many different capacities, currently being one of the Church Wardens. Professionally, he was a landscape gardener from which he has only just retired fully. In this respect, he is now advising the PCC on the churchyard management aspects of the Eco Church Award. He is a gentle fellow who often ponders matters quietly on the sidelines before giving wise advice to his incumbent or the Parochial Parish Council.

We thank Margaret and David for the brilliant work and contributions they have made to this diocese and congratulate them on receiving their Maundy Money.
