The Diocese of Bristol has recently developed an exciting and ambitious External Relations (ER) strategy – and begun building a team, fit for its delivery. Our dynamic new External Relations Team is responsible for delivering an ambitious Fundraising, Communications, Marketing and Strategic Partnerships strategy.

The role

As Digital Engagement Assistant, you will report to the Digital Engagement Manager, and work closely with the Deputy Director of External Relations and Director of External Relations to deliver communications that reflect our ‘Transforming Church. Together’ strategic goals. You will report on the positive impact of the strategy to internal and external audiences.

The role provides a fantastic opportunity for someone starting their third sector career to explore different forms of marketing and comms, as well as digital fundraising techniques, by supporting the day-to-day function of the marketing team, designing assets, shooting and editing photography and video, writing copy, and fielding fundraising, marketing and comms queries from parishes via phone and email.

In brief, it can be summarised as follows:

  • Monitor digital comms and fundraising campaigns’ and assist in designing presentations, reports and presenting insights.
  • Assist in creating and updating content and assets across multiple platforms, including website, social media (especially TikTok), blogs, emails, and other channels.
  • Support the Individual Giving and Supporter Care Officer to deliver digital fundraising campaigns and develop digital fundraising mechanisms to support the organisations’ wider fundraising objectives.
  • Support with market research to identify audience needs, competition, and trends to help in creating marketing strategies and plans.
  • Help with the organisation and coordination of events, such as conferences, exhibitions, and fundraising events, as and when required.
  • Manage the comms inbox and flag emails to relevant team members.
  • Manage audiences in CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system and DotDigital and ensure GDPR compliance in mailing lists.
  • Manage support tickets for digital tools, submitted via the dedicated Trello board.
  • Support the team by working collaboratively to reach goals, including covering for absence of team members to ensure services can continue to run smoothly.

The Organisation

The Diocese of Bristol is the administrative area of the Church of England that covers Bristol and Swindon. There are more than 200 churches in the Diocese, led by hundreds of clergy, and around 15,000 children and young people attend our 72 church schools. This is an exciting time within the Diocese as we are collaboratively shaping a new vision and set of priorities for the coming years in a process called Transforming Church. Together. Desired (not essential) Skills and Experience:

  • Workplace experience of supporting a digital, comms or marketing team (can be volunteer)
  • Education in marketing or equivalent subject
