Looking back at the Coronation: bringing the community together

Coronations have always been a cause for celebration. Recently communities have come together to mark these momentous occasions with street parties, fetes, viewing parties and church services. The Coronation of King Charles III was marked with all of these and much more. Here are just some of the great events staged in the diocese around this very special day.

Friends Together Café – Christ Church Hengrove

Christ Church in Hengrove hosted a Coronation-themed Friends together café. Mixing with the crowds were some residents from the local care home and their carers. One of the carers commented:

“It was great to be able to bring the residents out for an hour.  A good time was had by all and there were lovely refreshments too.”

Trinity Ritz – Holy Trinity Bradley Stoke

Holy Trinity decided to still hold their monthly café on Monday 8th as the regular attendees said they didn’t want to spend the Bank Holiday on their own and wanted to celebrate with others. Lots of volunteer time was spent decorating the tables and preparing and serving lovely food.

Community Coronation Party – St Luke’s Barton Hill

Thanks to a grant from St Monica Trust, St Luke’s was able to host a Coronation party for the community with live music, children’s activities, tree planting and lots of cake. The event moved inside because of the weather but the tree planting went ahead, dodging the showers.  The tree was planted by the oldest and youngest members of the congregation. Thirty cream teas were delivered to the local care homes for older people who were unable to attend.

These events were able to happen because of the caring people who organised them.  Thank you to all who contributed. If you're interested in supporting your church in becoming a dementia-friendly church, please click here to access the resources on our website.
