Hours:   35 hours per week 

Salary:    £24,576 per annum 

Location:  Located at our Diocesan office in Stoke Gifford; there will however be an opportunity to explore and agree hybrid working arrangements which strike the right balance for the role holder and the Diocese.

Role Overview and Duties

Reporting to the Financial Accountant, this role will work with to provide operational Finance Support to the Diocesan Office. Duties will include:

- To Check all payment requests, submitted for payment by departments are correct and complete with appropriate authorisation.

- To accurately enter details of cheques, bank receipts and payments onto the accounting system on a daily basis and to prepare the banking of cheques received

- To update the Property department on a weekly basis on Rent recieved in the Bank Accounts from tenants

- To enter petty cash transactions onto the accounting system

- To assist the Financial Accountant with the review and preparation of the quarterly VAT returns as required (for which training will be given)

- Responsibility for the diligent filing and archiving of records

To support the routine tasks of the Finance Team such as banking or encashment of cheques as required.

    In addition, initiative will be required to investigate and respond to queries from supplier or payees.

The Organisation

The Diocese of Bristol is the administrative area of the Church of England that covers Bristol, Swindon, smaller towns and surrounding rural areas. Around 15,000 children and young people attend our 71 church schools and there are more than 200 churches in the Diocese, led by ministry teams. The Diocese can be seen as a family of 30,000 or so clergy, school staff and students, other staff, parish teams, volunteers and church attenders who work together with a common goal for all people to flourish and experience ‘life in all its fullness’.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • AAT Level 3 (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience of basic financial controls (e.g., bank reconciliations etc)
  • Experience of using accounting software with confidence
  • Experience in documenting systems and processes accurately and concisely
  • Good all-round Microsoft Office skills and confidence in use of Excel and formulae
  • Ability to be well-organised and to work accurately and calmly under pressure in a busy working environment 
  • Good inter-personal and diplomatic skills with the ability to relate to a variety of people at all levels in a discreet and polite manner
  • Able to work within a busy open plan office environment
