Safeguarding Resources for Parishes
Parishes and Churches are valuable parts of the communities that they serve. Providing everyone who use Church facilities with information about important safeguarding issues is a valuable function. The information provided on this page covers a range of subjects including:
- Safeguarding Children
- Modern Slavery and exploitation
- Support for people who are worried about their own behaviour or that of others
- Parents Protect and Traffic Light tool - advice and support regarding safe behaviour and sexual development of children
Information is also provided specific to the needs of children and parents who may struggle to understand difficult and challenging behaviour and what this might mean.
Below are resources that you can use to raise awareness within your Parish:
NSPCC PANTS - Underwear Rule
With the help of the NSPCC's friendly dinosaur Pantosaurus, talking PANTS is a simple way to teach your child how to stay safe from abuse - The NSPCC Underwear Rule.

Reporting modern slavery
Information from the public is vital in the fight against modern slavery.
To report your concerns call the police on 101. If you or someone else is in immediate danger call 999 straight away.
You can also report anonymously via:
- The National Modern Slavery Helpline on 08000 121 700
- Or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
The UK-wide Modern Slavery Helpline, which is operated by Unseen UK, released the 'Unseen UK Modern Slavery App' in July 2018 to make reporting to the helpline even easier. The App provides a simple guide to recognising the signs of modern slavery and reporting concerns in confidence to free more victims of slavery. The App can be downloaded by searching 'Unseen UK' in app stores now.
The Clewer initiative - Safe Car Wash APP
Modern slavery is hidden in plain sight on our high streets. People are being forced to work long hours, for little or no pay, and under threat of violence in hand car washes. Many hand car washes are legitimate businesses, but some of them are not. Police raids in hand car washes in towns and cities up and down the country have unearthed victims living in horrendous conditions.
The Safe Car Wash app is a new tool that will enable the largest community intelligence gathering exercise ever attempted in the United Kingdom.
Stop It Now
THE STOP IT NOW! HELPLINE - 0808 1000 900
The Stop It Now! helpline is available for anyone with concerns about child sexual abuse. Callers do not need to give identifying information, so can remain anonymous. We speak to thousands of people every year, and help them take action to protect children and young people from sexual abuse and exploitation.
