Do you enjoy working with young children and helping them learn through play? St. Barnabas in Knowle West is looking for volunteers to support their weekly toddler group including taking a lead on craft activities, sensory trays and messy play activities.
We welcome volunteers that are 18+ (or over 16 if you are working towards a childcare qualification) from all educational backgrounds, so if you are looking for a personal development opportunity or simply want to help make a positive impact in the lives of children and families, we'd like to hear from you. Applicants should be comfortable playing on the floor with toddlers.
Number of roles available: open ended
Weekly hours: Mondays 12:00-15:00
Location: St Barnabas Knowle West, Daventry Road Knowle West Bristol, BS4 1DQ
This volunteering role will start in June due to renovation work at the church.
What you’ll be doing
- Assist with running creative activities aimed at toddlers and their parents, including puzzles, sensory / messy play and live music
- There is an opportunity to create and deliver your own activities with support from the group leader and material costs provided.
- Welcoming parents and children to group actives and encouraging participation
- Engaging with families so they feel heard and at ease
- Setting up and putting away furniture, toys and activities
- Helping to prepare and serve refreshments
Skills we’re looking for
- Someone who is able to attend regularly and consistently
- Passionate about supporting and engaging with children through play
- As with all roles working with children and vulnerable people, attending safeguarding training would be necessary.
- A friendly attitude to create a welcoming atmosphere
- Being able to engage with children on their level and keep up with them physically
