We are delighted that several people from across the diocese will be licensed by Rt Revd Vivienne Faull, Bishop of Bristol as Licensed Lay Ministers (LLMS) at Bristol Cathedral tomorrow, Saturday 8 October at 10.30am at Bristol Cathedral. Everyone is welcome to attend.
LLMs have been trained and authorised to teach the faith, offer Christian leadership, and enable mission. They live out their faith in communities, churches and workplaces. The Church of England recognises them as ‘theologically educated lay people who can lead worship, preach, teach, work in mission and evangelism and do pastoral care’.
Please read their personal stories below:-
"Nobody can be more surprised than me at the journey of the past three years. It’s been the journey of my life. It’s only taken 20 years for me to respond! I spent most of that time believing I wasn’t good enough to consider something like licensing, no matter what my Church family said to me. But, very slowly, I have come undone. Amazingly, God knows me more than I know myself. When things have been incredibly tough, he has met me in His arms and given me His love, strength and Holy Spirit. I feel so compelled to serve in every way and any way; whatever that looks like. He is worthy and my job going forward is to say “yes” to Him. “God loves you, because He loves you, because He loves you” – These words saved my life, we must share this life saving news, and through this whole process, God has and will continue to equip me to do it. Excited and honoured is an understatement!"
"I have been a member of St Paul, Chippenham, part of the Greenways Benefice since the age of 9. I have always been a fully active member of the church performing many roles, but mainly in the admin and finance side of the Church. I have over the last few years developed a deep sense of God wanting more for me. This led to me starting the Exploring Christianity course, which, with some encouragement, directed me towards the discernment process. I have had a difficult few years with the diagnosis of a Chronic illness, but have really felt God guiding me to new things. So, I look forward to what is to come in my new LLM role, knowing that God is going to bless me greatly in this new stage of my life."
