All good things must come to an end!
Friday morning Bishop Yona and his wife invited me to share breakfast with them prior to our final meeting to discuss the findings of my stay and subsequent report.
Then a very quick return to the Mothers' Union centre to collect my luggage. Lots of fond farewells before we set off on the rather long dusty drive to Kampala. It was sad to say "Goodbye" especially as I have gained many new friends and made to feel so very welcome. However, hopefully this will not be my last trip as I was given an invitation by Bishop Yona to return for the commissioning of the West Ankole Mission Hospital in perhaps 2011. The need now is for the West Ankole Diocese to finance the project which will take time, hardwork, commitment and faith!!
I have spent two nights at Namirembe Guest House, near the cathedral and enjoyed meeting some extremly interesting people, all with wonderful tales to tell.
A highlight was to spend Saturday evening and most of Sunday with Joan Hall.
Joan was with CMS and has spent the majority of her life in Uganda. When I originally thought of coming here I was given her contact details as she was on leave in Bristol. She had provided me with such a lot of useful information before I came and we had many telephone conversations whilst in the UK. It was good therefore to meet in person.
I'm now at The Christian University of Mukono where I am staying for one night before my journey tomorrow afternoon to Entebbe Airport for my flight home. I hope to meet with one or two people before I leave, including Dr. Jean Chamberlain, from "Save the Mothers" programme. Her work has been so influential in endeavouring to reduce the appalling maternal mortality rate in this country. It would be good if I could in some small way support this work when back in the UK.
My stay in Uganda has been life enhancing and life changing. I am so grateful for the opportunity which was opened for me and have seen God's guiding hand in every encounter and activity. Thank you for everyone's prayerful support. I have kept extremely healthy and feel truly blessed.
